GAPP reception in town hall

l

Lori Roberts

First period today we had GAPP homeroom. We talked about our trip to Berlin. After that we went to the computer lab and checked our e-mails, and wrote people back. Since we our going to Berlin on Friday we looked up Berlin on the internet and found place that we wanted to see and go to, when we get there. Some of us went into Neumarkt and had lunch. At 11:30 our group and the German girls met. We went down to the mayors office. We met the mayor and he then showed us a presentation about the town and it’s history, which was very interesting. After the meeting we went to the bank and exchanged American dollars for euros for the trip for  Berlin. After we got back to Sindlbach we went down to the local store which is also the post office and mailed some letters and postcards back to the States. When we got back to Frany’s house we had dinner and packed for Berlin.

GAPP Berlin

Last night Sarah, Karie, I stayed in a room together in the Mieneger Hostil. So this moaring sarah was the first one to wake up, because the sun rose and she was complaining about not being able to sleep because of the sun light. She took a shower at about 7:00am and woke karie and i because she was so loude with the bathroom door opening and closing it because she could not figure it out. When she took the shower she turned on the shower wrong and the shower sprayed our entire bathroom so it was a giant pond. Karie took a shower and then sarah and i decited to leave her and go get some brakefast. When we returned i took a shower and and when i was finished we met in the meeting room and left at 9:00am. We went strait to the bus and started our tour. The tour guide was very weird and pessimistic, he kept dissing on America and saying things like this was a great church untill America bombed us, or Germany use to be good at this untill America took over, bla bla bla. We went to a l ot of cool sights and everything was very beautiful. The best part was that the tour guide had let us know that we were staying in the drug central of Berlin, great..... after our 3 hour tour we all had the choice of going shopping for 4 hours or shoping for and hour and a half and then going to the Sony Center and watching the German soccor game. Of corse sarah, karie, and i went shopping for 4 hours. At first we were shopping with jon, krystal, and jackie, but we were going very slow and jackie and i were getting very impatiant because we are speed shoppers, so jackie and i went off by our selves. After that we got a lot of shopping done, i bought a berlin jacket and alot of gifts for my parents and sister. When jackie and i were in our prime shopping moments we finnaly realised that we had ran out of time so we ran to our meeting place and then as a groupe we went to the sony center to meet the others. Sarah, karie and i all went and ate ant a very good italian restarunt that was very nice and i had the best sandwitch i had ever h ad. Then we got really cold so we all went to dunkin donuts and and had some donuts. You could still hear the croude from the sony center and every one watching the soccor game. At 8:30pm we met at the old stop light and from there we headed to the disco. I was a little mad because they would not let me change at teh disco so i had to where my long sleev shert. I was not having very much fun untill sarah showed me the ropes and i bought my self some lemonade, and then we headed for the dance flore. All the american girls were dancing and then we just got randome people to come up and dance, it was so fun! It was first just a few people and then it turned into so many people that every one was shoulder to shoulder and dancing. We all ran out of lemonade so jon went and bought us all a new lemonade. We were dancing and i got a lemonade spilled on me that kinda sucked. At about 12:00 am we all met and headed back to the hostel. Sarah, karie and i were still a little hyper and so we were goofing around in the room and then we started to get tiered from watching tv and then we went to bed.

GAPP bakery + breakfast

Today we didn’t have to go to class instead we got to got to the oldest bakery in Neumarkt. It was established around 1846. This bakery has been in the family for five generations and soon to be six generations. The bakery was enjoyable, espacially getting to make pretzels. And our pretzels didn’t look that bad. After making the pretzels and touring the bakery, we went back to the school and had a real bavirian breakfast. It consisted of our pretzels, white (veal) sauage, and some sort of mustard. It was interesting to eat!

After school Nadine, her mom and I drove to Kelhiem and Weltburg. Then we took a boat to what used to be monastary. We ate lunch again in the courtyard, I ordered noodle dish it was the only thing I kinda understood on the menu. We all had rattlers with lunch, that is a beer with lemonade. Then we looked around nd tried to skip rocks.

We took the boat back to the town of Riedenburg And then we saw the hall of Liberation . It was quite spectacular. We climbed at least 200 steps. The angels we all alittle different it was fun to look for the differences. I could see how it would take 21 years to build. Then we drove home I fell asleep of coarse. I was still tired from our trip to Berlin. When we got home we ate yet again. Then I kinda helped Nadine with her homework (it was more like distracting) And I went to bed early.

Always Krystalee

P.S. I miss home. We come back in 12 days half ways though the trip.

GAPP Rothenburg

Today we woke up early, almost too early.  We got on the bus outside of the school over by the city pool. Then we headed out on the bus to go visit some sites. The first stop was a german outdoor museum. It was a medievil village which had homes from throughout history.  I don’t know what it was called but it was somewhat interesting. By the end, though, most people had fallen behind and weren’t listening to the guide. They also had a collection of farm animals including the largest pig I have ever seen. It was a horse; about three and a half feet tall and about 6 feet long. Wow, that was a big piggy. Then we headed out to Rothenburg o.d. Tauber. This was an amazing little town. It was right out of the middle ages with its cobblestone web of streets and its ancient city wall and buildings. There were lots of tourists. We met some people from Ohio, Texas, and Pennsylvania. All highschool and college students as well. The gift shops were really inexpensive. They had all kinds of knick-knacks and souveniers.  I was able to get a complete collection of all kinds of glasses and mugs (for pop of course) including a massive liter mug for only ten euro. Then we met up and went to the Crime and Punishment (the torture) museum. It was kind of interesting but we took too long and the guide only spoke German so we didn’t understand much. All in all, Rothenburg was pretty much how I remembered it from the last time I was there; a picturesque little German village. It is a very photogenic place, good for a day’s exploration. The bus ride home was like pretty much every other bus ride; uncomfortable, hot and long. After getting back I had dinner with my host family.

GAPP Neuschwanstein

                                  Paul Gydas

I got up at about 6:15 AM this morning. I hadn’t slept well last night, so I’m fairly tired. I had a quick breakfast of eggs and toast. At 6:30 AM I was ready to go to the bus stop. We had the trip to Neuescwanstein today and I didn’t want to miss it. I was the first American GAPP student to arrive at the bus stop. Most everyone arrived at the last minute or late.

It was a 3 hour trip to Neuescwanstein Castle. I passed the time listening to music and writing. We arrived by 10:00 AM. We hung around the town for a while. We hiked up the mountain at about 11:45 AM. We arrived just in time for our 12:15 PM tour. We only saw about six or seven rooms. There was a multi-media presentation, but I didn’t attend it. We then went further up the mountain to a bridge overlooking Neuescwanstein. It took us a while to hike back down to the bus. We had a little detour on the way home. We stopped at a little church. It was very beautiful. The trip home was 5 ½ hours. In Montana terms we took the scenic route. In laymans terms... we were lost. When we got back to Neumarkt, I procceded , at my host house, to cheak my e-mail, take a bath, and go to bed.

GAPP Nürnberg

Today we went to the train station this morning at 7:15 AM. I had taken the train from my host family’s house to get there. All of the American students met there and we left on the train at 8:00 in the morning. It did not take long to get to Nuremberg. When we got there, we went on a tour of the castle where the Emperor would stay when he would visit Nuremberg. We also got to visit the medieval museum as well. That was a lot of fun, because I like medieval things. I got to see old suits of armour and old swords and old weapons and such. After that we went shopping, again, and got some food. Then we went to the train station to wait for the German students to arrive because they had had school. Unfortunately, their train had broken down and so we had to wait in the train station for two hours.

After that, I went with my host family (who had come to the station to find us) and we  went shopping for a suit for my host girl’s brother. Then we went to the American Diner at the Imax theater. The food was good.

It was late when we were done with dinner, so we went to their home and I went to sleep.

GAPP Quilting Class

Today I woke up about 6:15 am, just like every morning. It was the same rush to get ready and to the bus. The bus was more crowded today though. Some of the kids must have missed the first two busses. Viki and I got to school about 7:55 am, right on time. While our host girls went to class, the rest of us had a short meeting in the GAPP homeroom. From there Paul and I took off to go see what we could see around town. I didn't buy anything but it was a nice walk. We got back to the school early so we stayed in the main lounge area. About 1:00 pm school got out and so back to the bus Viki and I went.

When we got home we had dinner. Viki's mom usually cooks us a hot meal. After that I went and took a nap while Viki did her homework. About an hour later Viki came in and we worked together on her English homework. We finished just in time to catch a ride with her dad to town. Viki had to go to her sewing lesson with Carol and I was to meet with my new friend Micky. Micky and I went to the park and talked for about two hours and then met Viki outside the school. After Viki and Micky talked for a while then us girls took off for home. Once home

Viki and I sat down and watched Ice Age. It was so funny in German. I loved it. After that... bed time!! Night night everyone.
